Over 500 People attended the "Official Opening" of Rianna's Furaha Children's Home with almost half of these being children from local schools, Scouts and other children's homes and organisations. The site was transformed into an arena for the day, with 3 marquees on the site. Also invited were the extended families or guardians of children staying in the Home. Members of the Local Board, a number of local councillors and children's services officials, plus representatives from other organisations.

The day began with the local Scouts singing the Kenyan National Anthem. Steve davenport and Eunice Aweyo officially opened the Home with the unveiling of a plaque and the cutting of a ribbon - they then welcomed all of the visitors through the gates. Several speeches were made and a number of children representing local schools and homes performed for the guests... the childre staying at Rianna's Home also sang for them. A band from  nearby school for the blind provided the music - to which all of the guests were invited to dance.

Following the speeches and formalities everyone enjoyed a meal, with a number of queues being formed to ensure that all 500 people had sufficient food to eat. The kitchen was at full stretch and caterers had been hired for the day.

The next stage for the Home will be for the Board to promote income generating activities and source additional funds from local government - so this  important day provided guests with a valuable opportunity to see the facilities already being provided by the Home.

Steve Davenport, Malcolm and Barbara Leighton, Lynne Cross and Mark Haustead were all in  Kenya to represent Rianna's Fund on this very special occasion.
