Nakulabye Junior School

The existing school at Nakulabye

A team representing Rianna's Fund visited Kampala, the capital of Uganda in late 2006. They were hosted by David Kabiswa from a charity called ACET, Uganda (Aids Care Education & Training). The team visited a number of projects and Rianna’s Fund may become involved in some of these in the future.

One of the projects the team visited was Nakulabye Junior School in the slums area of Kampala.  The area is very poor and there is a high incidence of AIDS in the area. The facilities at the current school are extremely basic. There are over 640 children who attend the school, many of them orphans. The classrooms are in a poor state and some of them do not even have a rear wall. The team met with Moses the Headmaster of the school who was instrumental in setting up this community school.

In conjunction with ACET, Uganda the school purchased some land close to the existing school. The plans to build the new school were drawn up and the new school will provide the children with much improved facilities and give them a better chance of fulfilling their potential.

Rianna’s Fund became the main sponsor of the building project and ACET Uganda managed the building of the school locally. We are pleased to say that the new Nakulabye Junior School officially opened on the 7th of March 2008  - Click here for pictures of the early building work and click here for pictures of the new school and the opening ceremony!
