As well as the new
children's home in Yala, Kenya, Rianna's Fund is also supporting the
education of 60 children in and around Kisumu. The government have
recently begun to provide primary state education, but nursery and
secondary education have to be paid for and for many underprivileged
children it's just not possible.Education isn't a right in Kenya, it's a privilege and
the children we have met struggle to be educated because they really want
to learn. We were told stories of children staying behind after school to do
their homework because they could not afford the oil for lamps at home to
work by and of a child who walked three hours to school and three hours
back every day.
The education support project has run for over 10 years
and has seen many children through the whole of their education including college and university.
