Mike McHale is going to attempt the ultimate
challenge in UK cycling, Lands End to John O'Groats in May
2004.
Sponsorship money raised by Mike will be
shared between Rianna's Fund and the
carer's charity Crossroads.
When we asked Mike why he wanted to attempt
such a huge journey Mike told us;
"As a racing cyclist
I was always interested in speed rather than distance but that was 30
years ago and old age has made me think differently. Over the past couple
of years I've read accounts of people who have ridden the "end to
end" and caught the bug.
I have to admit that now
the ride is approaching fast I'm beginning to realise that 1000 miles is a
long way but the thought of knowing that I'm raising money for two great
causes will help me get through those days when it is wet with a head wind
and the road only seems to be up hill.
I'm aiming to cover
around 80 miles a day and credit must be given to my wife Brenda who will
be driving the support vehicle and will ensure that I'm stuffed full of
calories and that we find a good B&B each night!"
We'll be posting details
of Mike's experiences later this year and wish him every success in
achieving his goal.
