Simon and the London Triathlon 2005

In August  2005 I completed the London Triathlon - my first triathlon.

The London Triathlon is the world's biggest triathlon in terms of the number of people taking part. It was a great feeling waiting in the water (Victoria Dock) for the race to start knowing that you are part of such a big event (it was also a great feeling when I finished!).

The distance I competed in is called the Sprint distance. It consists of a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run (these distances are half the Olympic distance). I finished 718th out of 1200 in a time of 01:32:46 which I was pleased with. I've found it a great way of keeping fit and hope to do a couple of triathlons next year. Hopefully I can duck under 1 hour and 30 minutes in my next one.

I had a great time on the day. In the run (by far my weakest of the 3 disciplines) it really helped knowing that I was raising approximately £1000 for Rianna's fund. I'd like to thank everyone who contributed towards the great work the fund does. I'd also like to thank my wife Cathy and kids (Tom, Jake, Kirsty and Hannah) for allowing me the time for training and competition.
